Biting the Bullet . . .

After yesterday’s pretty much all day rain, today turned out to be really nice outside. So we were able to sit out with our coffee and muffins, and Nick and Terry. And even better, a little while later Dick and Phyllis Schell showed up for a while.

They’re in the process of doing some upgrades to their Freightliner Super C so they came over before they took their rig down to have some measurements done.

It was so nice that we sat out for about two hours before heading in. A little later Nick and Terry ran some errands while I did some stuff around the rig. Then about 3 Nick and I went down to the Verizon store where I bit the bullet and upgraded my phone to a new Samsung Galaxy S5.

Charge vs S5

BUT!

I still don’t have contacts. As before we can see them online in Verizon’s BackupAssistantPlus, but the phones, neither my old Samsung Charge nor my new S5, can see them to pull them down. And there doesn’t seem to be a way to push them from the BackupAssistant either. But I’m still working on it.

I do really like the S5 so far though. It’s very fast and has a 16 megapixel camera, better than my Panasonic Lumix.

One thing different is that the phones no longer come with a SD card like my Charge did. It came with an 32GB, and the Verizon Store said that they would sell me one for $49.95.

Yeah, right!

I can get one online for $10-15.

So now I’m spending time re-downloading all my favorite apps to the S5. But it will be a good opportunity to weed out those I really don’t use.

We really look forward to seeing him for his 4th birthday in August.

For supper tonight we had our leftover King Wha Hunan Chicken from a few nights ago. Still really good, especially with Sriracha Sauce on it.

Down in Texas every Chinese restaurant stocks Sriracha, but up here they don’t seem to have heard of it.

Then a little later, Nick brought over some of Miss Terry’s still-warm,fresh, homemade pastys. Kind of like one of those half-moon apple turnovers or apple pies, but with meat and veggies in them. Boy, were they good!

And the crust was just fantastic. So good in fact, that they would be delicious if they were just made of crust, no filling.

Nick said tomorrow is going to be just magical. We’ll see.

  1. When I had to get a new Verizon phone a few months ago, I did not have my contacts, so I went to the Verizon store for help. They attempted to load them, and I ended up having every contact 3-4 times. I am still trying to delete the extras!

  2. So….when you figure out how to zoom the camera on the S’ would u please let me know? Thanks! Chris P.S. tell Jan we saw a moose today on our way to Fairbanks but no time for pic. He was fast!

  3. Chris,

    That’s a easy one.

When you’re in camera mode, you use your fingers to spread the screen out vertically or pinch it in, kind of like you do to zoom in on a photo you’re displaying on the phone.

    Hope this helps.

  4. Don’t you have a Gmail account since you’re using an android device? If so you just set up the new phone with your gmail account and have it sync up contacts, calendars, etc. I keep everything else backed up on Drive. That with Evernote is about all you need.

  5. Landon looks like he is a joy! What a cutie pie.

  6. Wow. If that S5 was any bigger it’d be a “phablet”. I love my S4 so the S5 ought to be a screamer. BTW…one of my favorite apps for social media, news and custom interest feeds is Flipboard. Once it’s set up it’s hard to put it down.

  7. Love my S4 your will love your S5. Nick said the Verizon store said you could not keep his unlimited data plan, WRONG, he can the people at the store just do not know how to do it or have been told not to. Find out if the same Verizon guys who were at the SKP’s rally last month in Goshen will be at the upcoming Rally in Goshen. Chris Gould upgraded her phone there and kept her unlimited data plan.

  8. Our new htc’s came with the micro sd card slot, another push for us to purchase 2 of those. The camera is so good, I don’t even carry my camera anymore. We cache with it, shop with it, Yelp, and navagate with it. The battery is amazing! The only down side is that it is so new it is hard to find the perfect color accessories for it. Finally found my purple Otter Box cover. :). Know you will love your new phone. Hope to run into you soon.

  9. Greg,I know you like gadgets.I bought an induction wireless charger for my Samsung Galaxy from Amazon. It makes charging so much easier,I will not have another phone without it.It charges just as fast as the regular charger….Lloyd

  10. David,

That’s what I’m planning to do. Just haven’t had chance to get everything out of Backup Assistant and upload to Google.

  11. Tom,

As I understand it from several people who tried to follow up with him, he’s been fired since the rally.

Apparently because of the ‘special’ deals he was making.

  12. Lloyd,

I’ve heard about those and will check it. However so far I’m only having to charge my phone every 2 or 3 days. And since I’m usually hooking it up to my computer to get pictures off it, that seems to keep it charged.
